Have you ever considered having an instant wind band in your school? Just think, in as little as one term your school could have an instant full Concert Band performing their very first concert!!!

Fully Integrated Band Methods were developed in the USA in the late 1960’s to cope with the high demand for music education in schools with increased budgetary pressure due to a seriously biting recession. This economic meltdown saw the wholesale cutting of music programmes in schools as the subject was at first deemed unnecessary.

Recent studies on the other hand, show that involvement in instrumental music increases brain activity. This develops heightened spatial awareness in the cranial lobes which has a very positive effect on the other curricular activities.

These band programmes were so successful that they are still used throughout America, and are very common in east and south-east Asia.

Why are fully integrated band methods so successful?

	They are cost effective.
	They work.
	Children spend more time with their teacher.
	Children can have more fun learning in groups.
	Children will learn much curriculum subject music through the band experience.
	The band practice can be in curriculum time, extra-curricular time, or both.
	Bands can perform in public after one term.
	School bands are very important for fostering a sense of community both inside and outside the school.
	It helps give the school a corporate identity.
	We have talented staff conductors that can teach all the instruments.

How many children will benefit?

The bands can be any size up to a maximum of 58 players.

To teach that many children on all these different instruments with a typical Music Service the cost to the school can be as much as £17,000 a year. Each pupil can typically receive as little as 10 hours tuition annually at a unit cost of £300 a year or £30 an hour per pupil. This is why usually there is no band in the school.
