My Son Matthew and his Son-rise program

Matthew is affectionate, fun-loving and intelligent.

At four and a half years old he loves to talk about numbers, letters, and colours. He likes to pick out tunes on the piano and experiment with harmonies. He writes and draws intricate patterns. He can tell the time, add, multiply, write Roman Numerals, and count in both French and English.

However, he finds it very difficult to ask for what he wants. He cannot understand how to play with other children, pushing them away and ignoring them, and finds it very hard to cope with all the stimuli when we take him out of his familiar environment. Matthew has a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

Andrew and Anne are running a Son-Rise program for their son. This is a wonderful opportunity to join Matthew in his world, having an attitude of love and acceptance which inspires his desire to interact and communicate with others; which will enable him in time to come out of autism. Matthew is already making very encouraging progress with this exciting and fun child-centred program, but more volunteers are needed to make it possible for him to overcome his difficulties.
